CUPID OJALA


ABOUT

Cupid Ojala was born in 1977 and grew up in a conservative Mormon family in rural Bumpass, Virginia. He transitioned from female to male in 2003 and resides in Brooklyn, New York. He earned his MFA at Parsons The New School for Design in 2012 and received his BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1999. His exhibitions/performances include the Mosaic Project at Pennsylvania School of Art and Design, The Institute of Contemporary Art at the University of Pennsylvania, Art During the Occupation Gallery and Spring Break Art Fair in 2018. In 2017 he was in Art 2ª Bienal Internacional Arte de Gaia, the Iridian Gallery in Richmond VA In 2016 he attended Vermont Studio Center's Artist Residency and performed Love Prescriptions at Turnhalle in Bern, Switzerland. His exhibitions/performances include the Leslie-Lohman Museum’s Prince Street Project Space, Art In Odd Places 2014 in New York, and The Stamp Gallery at the University of Maryland. He was a Grant by United Artists in 2021 and was awarded residencies at Opossum House in 2018 and Vermont Studio Center in 2016.
