Steven Fragale is a painter focused on the impact of our digital behavior on our collective consciousness. Steven’s oil paintings continue off the canvas and onto cell phones using an augmented reality and computer vision app he writes for each piece. His work explores the novelty and inevitable obsolescence in consuming the next shimmering tech moment. Canvases are populated with his cad models, text messages, paint layers, interactives and animations. With paintings framed by phones, Steven invites the viewer into intimate moments with his subjects in fragmented virtually produced worlds. From the flatness of a screen to the surface of a painting, Steven paints in between, on and through questioning and conflating the realities presented.
